There is 50% air and 50% water. Technically the glass is always full.
If you try searching online the ways to stay positive, you will no doubt come across millions of searches. However, if you type “ways to think positive”, the searches will diminish – and that’s the key. In order to stay positive, you should “think positive”. First the mind becomes free and then you become free.
Whole world is writing motivational stuff these days so I thought I should share my experiences – but I have one rule: that which is not simple is not useful.
Here are three practical and easy ways you can stay positive; without going through too much trouble.
Always be yourself
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Many people say meditation helps, talking to a person who has come out of hard times inspire you – while all of that is true; the most crucial aspect of staying positive is staying true to yourself. The world is full of mimicry. When you are pretending to be someone else; indulging in stuff you don’t like of course you would be unhappy.
Not following your heart is what will take you down gradually, piece by piece. Do what you love, don’t care about the rest. When you start making decisions that are focused on your happiness; nothing can bring you down. The first step towards staying positive is staying true to yourself and stop lying about what you want. Do things that you like instead of basking in other peoples’ glory. They are them, they are not you.
Fulfil your commitments
“I don’t believe in making right decisions, I take a decision and make it right” – Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Think of it like this; if you walk away from your promises and commitments you will lose other peoples’ respect. And you will lose self-respect too – which is greater than any earthly reward. When you don’t respect yourself, when others think of you as an unreliable person; of course you would be unhappy.
Always stay true to your word and earn the respect of your people. Become the man (or woman) of the crises. Be the first person someone calls when they are in trouble. Reliability is the core of inter-person relationships.
Document your goals; write them down, hang pictures
“You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.” – Mark Twain
Today’s world is very fast paced. Everybody is overwhelmed. We don’t get the time to reminisce on important stuff. Instead of looking into the future we are tied down by the past and chained by the present.
The best way to deal with the haphazard life is to objectify your goals. Write them down, hang the picture of your dream car in your room, so that every time you look at it, it gives you motivation and life won’t be able to make your forget that ‘I will buy this car one day, so let’s continue working hard and let nothing stand in the way’.
A ‘bucket list’ like this will help you keep your focus and will constantly remind you of your goal that you are working towards.
There is too much negativity around you, don’t let it de-focus you.
Think positive to stay positive every day.
